Alicante Airport, also known as Alicante Elche Airport is the gateway airport for the Costa Blanca in Spain. The airport has been the landing spot since 1967 for many UK, German and Irish tourists wishing to holiday and soak up some sunshine as well as jumping into a hire car and exploring Alicante and the nearby Murcia region. This region of Spain is very accessible along the A7 motorway and this is part of the reason that Alicante is such a popular choice for a place to land. The airport is busy, especially in summer, and it handles about 9 million passengers per year and even had to build a new terminal to handle demand. This was completed in 2011.
