Did you know that over 130 million people go through the airports in London each year? Heathrow airport carries the most passengers and has the biggest number of international passengers of any airport in the world.
Saying that, is it not really surprising that the airport is so popular. It has five terminals which are well laid out, it is easy to get around the airport and the public transport offerings to get there and get away are amazing and it’s also easy to access by rental car.
When you get to the airport, you have super duty free shopping, an unrivalled choice of destinations to jet off to! Check out this terminal map which will help you find your way around the airport and ensure you have as much time as you need at the duty free!
Getting to and from the airport:
As we said, Heathrow airport offers a great selection of public transport offerings to get to and from the airport, depending on your preference, where you are coming from in the city and how much time you have to get to the airport! Remember; London isn’t the cheapest place in the world for public transport so weigh up your options beforehand:

RailAir have a train service linking Fletham, Reading, Woking, Watford Junction and Heathrow. Alternatively for a speedy trip to Heathrow airport, take the Heathrow Express from central London and get to the airport in 15 minutes.
There are three underground stations in Heathrow for the Piccadilly Line, one for Terminals 1, 2 & 3, one for Terminal 4 and the newly opened Terminal 5 and it takes on average an hour or so to the city.
Check if your hotel offers an airport shuttle, if not, try the Hotel Hoppa which provides shuttles from Terminals 1, 3, 4 and 5.
Taxis are located outside each Terminal at Heathrow. The journey takes about an hour, traffic depending and the cost can be anywhere from £45-70.
Car Rental from Heathrow airport is also a great idea if you are looking at exploring London and its surrounds. You are right beside the M25 and I found this really cool road trip guide for the M25 on The Guardian’s website, check it out on this link.
